The EuroCC2 project organizes the second “Industry Day” event, designed to foster engagement between Cypriot corporations and CaSToRC researchers. As the National Competence Centre in High Performance Computing (HPC), CaSToRC’s mission is to integrate cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML), HPC, Computational Modelling and Data Analytics into the workflows of Cypriot enterprises. The EuroCC2 project offers a range of free services and collaboration opportunities to the local industry, including consultation, bespoke training and support to access and use of HPC resources. This gathering brought together industry leaders, researchers, and innovators to explore the transformative potential of High-Performance Computing (HPC), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and computational modeling in driving operational efficiency and innovation across various sectors.

Among the distinguished presenters was Dr. Dimitris Kyriakou, Co-Founder and CEO of EFEVRE TECH, who introduced the scientific community to the company's groundbreaking projects: the AMGEL device and the VITALE software platform.

VITALE: Pioneering AI-Powered Laboratory Automation

While AMGEL, an autonomous experimental device, has already demonstrated its capabilities in enhancing laboratory workflows, the spotlight of Dr. Kyriakou's presentation was on VITALE software — a visionary software platform still in its developmental phase at the time. Designed to complement AMGEL, VITALE aims to revolutionize laboratory operations by integrating AI-driven features that streamline experiment planning, execution, and analysis.

Key proposed features of VITALE include:

  • Protocol Designer: A user-friendly interface allowing researchers to custom design experimental protocols with precision.

  • Protocol Library: A comprehensive repository of validated protocols, facilitating knowledge sharing across laboratories.

  • Scheduling Calendar: An integrated calendar system to efficiently coordinate protocol runs.

  • Personal Labbook: A digital lab notebook enabling real-time documentation and collaboration among research teams.

  • AI Insights: Advanced analytics powered by AI to provide predictive insights in experimental procedures.

These features are envisioned to address critical challenges in scientific research, such as reproducibility, data integrity, and workflow efficiency.

Engaging the Scientific Community: Feedback and Collaboration

Dr. Kyriakou's presentation at the EuroCC2 Industry Day was met with enthusiasm from the scientific audience, comprising researchers and industry professionals keen on leveraging AI in their operations. The event provided a platform for in-depth discussions, where attendees offered valuable feedback on the desirability and practical applications of VITALE's proposed features.

This constructive feedback was instrumental in refining VITALE's development roadmap. Insights gathered during the event highlighted the importance of user-centric design, interoperability with existing laboratory systems, and the need for robust data security measures. These considerations have since been integrated into the ongoing development of VITALE, ensuring that the platform aligns with the real-world needs of the scientific community.

Strengthening Industry-Academia Collaboration

This Industry Day underscored the significance of fostering collaborations between industry and academia to drive technological advancements. By participating in this event, EFEVRE TECH not only showcased its innovative solutions but also engaged with potential partners interested in piloting VITALE and contributing to its evolution.

The event also highlighted success stories from other sectors, demonstrating the transformative impact of integrating advanced computing technologies into traditional industries. These narratives reinforced the potential of platforms like VITALE to catalyze innovation and efficiency in scientific research.

Looking Ahead: VITALE's Role in the Future of Research

Building on the momentum, EFEVRE TECH is committed to advancing VITALE's development, with plans to initiate pilot programs and collaborative projects in the near future. The insights and connections gained from the event have been invaluable in shaping a platform poised to redefine laboratory automation and research methodologies. As VITALE progresses from concept to implementation, EFEVRE TECH invites interested parties to join in this journey towards enhancing scientific discovery through AI-powered solutions.

The Project with the proposal number ENTERPRISES/0223/Sub-Call1/105 and project acronym VITALE is funded by the European Union Recovery and Resilience Facility of the NextGenerationEU instrument, through the Ίδρυμα Έρευνας και Καινοτομίας/Research and Innovation Foundation.
